Emergency Contraception: Latin American
Latin American Consortium: Builds Access to Emergency Contraception
The Latin American Consortium for Emergency Contraception (LACEC) continues to be a vital force for improving women’s access to timely, affordable emergency contraception (EC). LACEC is a network of 44 non-governmental, governmental, public and private organizations, and representatives from academic and research institutions. Through dynamic partnerships with women's and youth-serving non-governmental organizations, LACEC’s primary goal is to ensure that emergency contraception is institutionalized and made widely available across Latin America and the Caribbean. As the coordinating agency for LACEC during its first three years, the Pacific Institute for Women's Health has played an instrumental role in facilitating all of the Consortium's activities, and transferring the coordination to a local agency in South America.
